Margaret T. Ling has been a real estate attorney since 1986. Her real estate experience commenced with a privatereal estate  practice for almost a decade. Prior to practicing as a real estate attorney, Margaret was a Law Clerk for Chief Judge Constance Baker Motley of the United States District Court –Southern District of New York. Following her clerkship, Margaret focused on the area of immigration law before transitioning into real estate law.

For the past twenty years, Margaret has been in house counsel in the title insurance industry.

Her experience is multi-faceted and includes positions as Senior Underwriting Counsel positions at  First Nationwide TitleAgency, LLC; Skyline TRG Title Agency; Summit Associates, LLC; Liberty Title Agency, LLC and Legal Counsel positions at Couch Braunsdorf Insurance Group; Landstar Title Agency, Inc.; Intracoastal Abstract Co., Inc. and Titleserv, Inc. In those positions, Margaret was responsible for all legal title underwriting; reading; clearing and processing all title files for closing. She coordinated all title underwriting requirements with the Agent’s respective Title Underwriters and also addressed all post-closing escrow and policy matters.

Margaret also held positions at the major New York Title Underwriters. As New York Agency Underwriting Counsel at Stewart Title Insurance Company and Ticor Title Insurance Company- The Fidelity Title Group, Margaret provided underwriting and legal support for over 300 New York State Title Agents and Direct Operations. She was responsible for review and processing of all Over Limit Hi Liability Policies and Reinsurance; performed start up audits and field agent underwriting audits; processed all foreclosure and inquiry claim files; and prepared and presented all Agent CLE Seminars. As New York Claims Counsel at First American Title Insurance Company, Margaret was responsible for processing and resolving in house files on behalf of its agents while coordinating and monitoring retained counsel on all litigation files.   

Margaret received her Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Cum Laude and Dean’s List from Barnard College – Columbia University and her Juris Doctor degree from New York Law School. She is admitted to practice law in the State of New York, Appellate Division, and Second Department.

Margaret currently serves as Co-Chairperson of the Asian American Bar Association of New YorkReal Estate Committee and the Asia Practice Committee. Margaret was also a former Board of Director.  In 2013, Margaret was awarded the “Most Valuable Player Award” for outstanding dedication and service to AABANY.

Her other Bar Association memberships include the New York County Lawyer’s Association where she is Co-Chairperson of the Asian Practice Committee; the National Asian Pacific Bar Association; the New York State Bar Association where she is a member of the Real Property Committee and the Diversity Committee; the Queens Asian Bar Association; the Korean Lawyers Association of Greater New York; and the Asian Pacific American Lawyer’s Association of New Jersey.

Margaret is also an active member of the following organizations: Asian Real Estate Association of America-New York East Chapter where she is a Board of Director; Chinese American Real Estate Association of New York; Asian Real Estate Professional Association;

New York Chinese Banker’s Association; National Association of Asian Professionals; National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals; Columbia University Asian Alumnae Association;

This past January 2016,  Margaret was elected as a Fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. Election as a Fellow recognizes outstanding achievement and dedication to the legal profession.

Margaret was also featured in the Women in Real Estate Issue of the New York Real Estate Journal.

Margaret is an active member of both the Staten Island Board of Realtors and the Brooklyn Real Estate Board. In 2015, Margaret was a Speaker on AsianReal Estate Development at the Annual Fall SIBOR Conference. Later in December of 2015, Margaret was the recipient of the Brooklyn Real Estate Board Award for “Outstanding Leadership and Innovation in Enhancing Global Business”

Margaret is a Board ofDirector of the New York Law School Alumnae Association. She is actively involved with the New York Law School Asian American Law Students Association where she mentors the students about managing their law school curriculum and career counseling. She was the 2010 recipient of the New York Law School Award for Distinguished Service in Diversity and Progress.

When Margaret is not being a busy attorney, she is passionate about her golf. She is a member of the United States Golf Association and active member of the New Jersey PGA Golf Foundation. She is an active Volunteer Golf Coach with the First Tee Program of Metropolitan New York-Plainfield Country Club Chapter. To date,  Margaret has been the Pro Am Chairman for the PGA Barclays Fed Ex Cup Golf Tournament. Margaret is also involved with the LPGA and since 2012, has been on the Pro Am Team for the LPGA Shoprite Acer Classic.
